I've learned a few hard lessons over the past decade on the importance of letting my calendar reflect my heart/values. Another way to say it is to let my actions reflect my feelings.
I hate to admit it, but while I thought I was living my life “on purpose”, I really couldn’t succinctly communicate my values when someone asked. I’d shrug my shoulders and blurt out a few words that were top of mind, but certainly not intentional. And, I knew it. What I didn’t know at the time, was that I was simultanesouly managing a low grade anger and not sure why that existed.
I’ve since learned that part of my low grade anger existed as a result of treading on some hidden values. Things were happening in my life and I was not responding in the way that my values were telling me to respond.
Basically, I ignored them. Consequently, there were a few things I was doing, or not doing, that was causing a conflict within me. Learning to identify these things was really helpful.
Learning to identify your values is a great coaching topic
Father/Son weekend @camphighland continues to be a preferred place where I get to slow life down, connect with my kids, and reinforce my values. I remain very grateful to the Camp Highland staff for creating such a place year over year.
