do something right.jpg

Being “caught in the act” may not trigger great memories for most of us. However, it really just depends on what we are caught in the act of doing, right?

I’m talking about catching people in the act of doing something RIGHT. You’ve heard it before, “What is rewarded is repeated."

When you catch someone in the act of doing something right, say something. You can do this in the home, office, ball practice, church, vacation, restaurant, etc.

It’s a pretty simple plan, actually.

  • Start looking for people doing the right thing. You’ll be amazed how often you see people doing great things once you begin to look for it.
  • Specifically mention what they did right. Stay away from speaking in generalities.
  • Say it, don’t just think it. Have the emotional fortitude to give the encouragement. You have no idea what hangs in the balance of your decision to encourage someone else.

Before you know it, you’ll create a culture of appreciation around you.

Having a plan to strengthen your emotional fortitude is a great leadership coaching topic.
