I don’t remember meeting anyone who ever said, “I’m tired of making so many good decisions.” If I did, I was probably too busy hating them to remember anything else they said.

Over my lifetime, I've heard some version of the following concerning good decision-making:

  • You are the sum total of the decisions you’ve made
  • Your today impacts your tomorrow
  • H.A.L.T. - Don’t make important decisions when you are Hungry, Angry, Lonely, or Tired.
  • Ask yourself, “What is the wise thing to do?” (even if you won’t do it)
  • Seek and listen for direction from God

The first four are super practical, the last one is amazing when you put it into practice.

I recognize that when I slow life down and prioritize my time to think/journal/pray/read in the morning, I am much more likely to be in a better mindset to make the wise decision during the day. I am not saying that I all my decisions are wise. I am saying that I’m more likely to make wise decisions.

As I lean Paul’s direction in his writings of Galatians 5:25, I find myself more aware of the direction God is leading me towards. When we have ears to hear, we will be blown away by how often our God speaks to us.
